چکیده

Pectins isolated from sugar beet pulp by autoclaving contained significant amounts of ferulates, 8.8% of which were ferulate dehydrodimers. The 8-8 and 8-0-4 dehydrodimers were predominant. Oxidative cross-linking with hydrogen peroxide/peroxidase lowered the amount of ferulic acid by 78%, while an increase in ferulate dehydrodimers by a factor of 4.9 was observed. The highest increase was seen for the 8-5 and 8-0-4 dehydrodimers. The concentration of total ferulates decreased by 36% after cross-linking, indicating that a part of the ferulates were converted to unidentified oxidation products. It was concluded that ferulic acid in beet pulp pectin is coupled into a variety of dehydrodimers by treatments that mediate oxidative cross-linking reactions. © 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.

Kinetics of enzyme-catalyzed cross-linking of feruloylated arabinan from sugar beet.

Ferulic acid (FA) groups esterified to the arabinan side chains of pectic polysaccharides can be oxidatively cross-linked in vitro by horseradish peroxidase (HRP) catalysis in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2)) to form ferulic acid dehydrodimers (diFAs). The present work investigated whether the kinetics of HRP catalyzed cross-linking of FA esterified to α-(1,5)-linked arabinans are a...

A Study on Plant Polymer: Pectin Production and Modification (RESEARCH NOTE)

Abstract Pectin from two different plant sources: apple and sugar beet was studied. Apple pectinwas modified by chemical treatments such as: acid, alkali and ammonia, so as to obtain an ester levelequal to or less than 50 %, which is described as low methoxyl (LM) pectin. LM pectin form gelswith significant characteristic. In this study, de-esterification of apple pectin with acid treatmentresu...

Effect of extraction conditions on the yield, purity and surface properties of sugar beet pulp pectin extracts

The extraction of pectins from sugar beet pulp was carried out in an aqueous acid medium under different conditions using a full twostate experimental design for three extraction parameters (pH, temperature and time). The yields of the extracted pectins ranged from 4.1% to 16.2%. Their contents in pectin constituents were 35.2–76.3% galacturonic acid, 6.8–32.9% neutral sugars, 2.0–4.2% methoxy ...

The faeA genes from Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus tubingensis encode ferulic acid esterases involved in degradation of complex cell wall polysaccharides.

We report the cloning and characterization of a gene encoding a ferulic acid esterase, faeA, from Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus tubingensis. The A. niger and A. tubingensis genes have a high degree of sequence identity and contain one conserved intron. The gene product, FAEA, was overexpressed in wild-type A. tubingensis and a protease-deficient A. niger mutant. Overexpression of both genes...

Isolation from sugar beet cell walls of arabinan oligosaccharides esterified by two ferulic acid monomers.

Side chains of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris) pectins, which are mainly composed of arabinose (Ara) and galactose (Gal) residues, are esterified by ferulic acid units. Enzymatic hydrolysis of beet cell walls yielded several feruloylated oligosaccharides, which were separated by hydrophobic interaction chromatography. Two new oligomers were isolated in the fraction eluted by 25:75 (v/v) ethanol:wate...
